حماة الحمى – Homat al-Hima

Homat al-Hima means “defenders of the homeland.” That’s a concept from the Quran and reminds people to take care of the common land and environment. The concept/slogan – حماة الحمى – Homat al-Hima – is very much supported by many organizations across the Middle East. Including SPNL in Lebanon, Prince Hassan bin Talal from Jordan, Syrian Society for the Conservation of Wildlife, etc.

On the photo above you see myself and Mulfleh Al-Alaween who made the flag for my bicycle.

Compared to many other initiatives in the region to protect environment (including water resources) this is not a top-down approach but intends to raise awareness among communities to protect and take care of their own environment.

Since I have this slogan on my bags, reactions of people I meet along the way are amazing! It’s really a very nice kick-off to start a small conversation even with my very limited Arabic knowledge.
