First part of our trip: From Beirut to Sour

Today we cycled the first part of our trip from Beirut to Sour. We started around 7am in Gemmayzeh in Beirut, from there to Saida with the aim to reach Sour (Tyre) today. Beat who arrived yesterday late was ready in the morning to wish us a nice journey and say goodbye!

In Saida we got the permission at General Security – Lebanese Intelligence – to be able to travel close to the southern border. We want to travel in the next few days along the southern border and will eventually, a bit north of Jabal Schech (Mount Hermon), reach the border with Syria from where we want to continue to Damascus.

Today, we had to cycle quite a bit on the Highway but also on the (sometimes) more calm Seaside Road. At around 2 pm we reached Sour, where I will stay until Wednesday early morning to explore some exciting features of Sour with regards to water supply but also ancient Roman sites which count to the very important historical heritage of the region.

Weather was sunny and warm today, but overall it’s rather a bit chill and I’m afraid not to have packed a decent amount of warm clothes.
