Assessment and Control of Water Bourne Diseases in the Kivu’s

In November 2013, Lucas Beck  together with Claudio Valsangiacomo, Microbiologist from the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland, got the mandate to assess the Cholera situation in North- and South Kivu and suggest activities for humanitarian aid of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). Cholera in DRCis present because of several risks that are driving the endemo-epidemic presence of the sickness.

The elaborated proposal for SHA for the next three years includes measures that complement current efforts to rebuild water supply infrastructure, establishment of a cholera information system, laboratories for better water quality survey, and various measures for capacity building for population and institutions in the region.
